Abstract:  High Availability/Disaster Recovery 101
How do you design a SQL Server 2014 infrastructure in order to meet specific Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) service levels? There are many aspects to consider, from technology choices and licensing, to policies and procedures. This session outlines and compares the various HA/DR technologies available in SQL Server 2014, showing how you can combine them to design and build a solution to help meet your HA/DR goals. It also covers how to come up with the necessary policies to make the technology actually work in your situation.

Shawn Nesser is a Data Platform Architect from Microsoft.  He is in 15th year at Microsoft.  He has been a SQL Server Consultant, SQL Technical Specialist, BI Technical Specialist and Application Platform Solution Specialist and Manager in his tenure at the company.  He is also a Lieutenant Commander in the US Coast Guard Reserves.   Outside of work, he is fascinated with aviation, RC cars and loves to play Legos with his boys.

Abstract:  Big Data for the SQL Server Professional
What a SQL Server Professional needs to know about the Data Lake and the all up Microsoft Big Data story.   Have you heard your company talking about Big Data and wondering what the options are for someone with a SQL Server background?   We will discuss Lambda Architecture, unstructured data options such as Hadoop (HDInsight) and Data Lake.  We will see Microsoft’s new U-SQL language in action and drill into Data Lake fundamentals.   This will be tailored for the beginner, but Big Data experts will learn something alike.
